What is Responsible Payday Loan Use?
Payday lenders often admonish in their advertisements "please use payday loans responsibly." While that statement is often used to tell people how to use payday loans, what exactly does it mean? You may have heard about people that have trouble paying off their payday loans. Unexpected expenses happen to everyone on occasion. If you are already living paycheck to paycheck, it may be difficult to pay bills once an emergency expense occurs. If you need cash in a hurry, a payday loan can help you get out of your financial bind. However, to avoid getting stuck in a payday loan trap, you need to use payday loans responsibly.
Responsibility Tip #1: Only Take What You Need
When you are taking out a payday loan, don't take out more than you need. When you take out a payday loan, you pay a fee based on the amount of money that you are borrowing. If you only need $50 to keep your electricity from being shut off, don't borrow $100. Once you discover that you have more month than money, cut off all spending except for essentials. That is the responsible way to avoid spending too much money.
Responsibility Tip #2: Do You Really Need It?
Some things are nice to have, but you don't really need them. Other times, you might need to have something, but there are less expensive choices out there than the ones that you would prefer to have. Before taking out a payday loan, ask yourself if there is any way that you could avoid the extra expenses that you think you need a payday loan for. Then ask yourself if you really need to spend as much as you think you do. You may discover that by cutting out all unnecessary expenses, and trimming what you do have to spend, that you might not need to take out a payday loan after all. At the very least, you might be able to get away with borrowing less.
Responsibility Tip #3: Can You Afford to Pay Back the Loan?
All payday loans have to be paid back. In addition, if you can't pay off a payday loan within the original loan period, you're going to have to pay back additional fees. Before you take out a payday loan, have a plan in place to pay it back. Do you have to cut back on some of your expenses? Can you work more hours? Do you have to sell something? Nobody likes the "B" word, but getting a budget together and deciding how you are going to pay back a payday loan before you get it is the responsible thing to do.
